What Ink Is Used For Stamping ?

Updated: Jul 18, 2022

This is one of the most often asked questions I receive! The most crucial feature of your ink should be...quality. That's correct! If you begin with inferior ink, you will labour really hard and never get the desired result. So, instead of starting with low-cost brands and convenient but low-quality business stamp pads from your local office supply store, start with nearly any Imagine Crafts ink.

There are numerous inks designed for a wide range of applications. I only sell Imagine Crafts inks because the quality is excellent, the raised beds make oversized stamps easy to deal with, and the range of ink formulations for different crafts is unrivalled.

Pigment inks are designed to sit on top of the surface being stamped. This means they produce incredibly brightly coloured imprints and are excellent for embossing. They require some drying time because they do not absorb into the surface. Stamping using pigment inks on matte paper is the easiest, but they're also very adaptable. Pigment inks can be utilised on glossy surfaces such as glassine, but they require a steady touch and a LOT of drying time. They can also be used on most materials, albeit not all are washable. (To learn more about stamping fabric, click here.) I like to use pigment inks to stamp the muslin bags that I use to package stamps in!

Because the ink is thicker in substance, the ink pad is spongy and porous. Colors are vibrant and seem comparable on the pad and on the paper after stamped. Pigment inks are well for stamping on most materials and fabrics, as well as embossing. Versacolor, Versacraft, Brilliance Pearlescent inks, Delicata metallic inks, and Memento Luxe are among the pigment inks we stock.

Archival dye inks penetrate the surface on which you are stamping. As a result, they dry rapidly and are quite easy to work with. They are permanent and tend to be reasonably waterproof once dried, but their colour can fade with time. The ink pad is frequently denser and appears considerably darker than the ink once stamped. Archival dyes should not be used on extremely absorbent papers since they will bleed. Please be in mind that archival dyes will stain your stamp, particularly clear stamps! Archival dye inks are ideal for stamping on matte materials and tasks such as watercolour painting over stamped images.

Stamps are being used for a variety of purposes by at-home artisans, schools, and corporations alike. Stamps may liven up your creative projects and business initiatives, from scrapbooks and t-shirts to print marketing. With so many different sorts of stamps and uses, you may be wondering, "What kind of stamp ink do I need?"

The best stamping inks are determined by your application. For example, quick-dry ink produces a crisp picture on glossy and non-porous surfaces such as metal, plastic, photos, glossy paper, and CDs. Other stamp inks are designed expressly for use on materials or on flesh.

Quick-dry ink is perfect for stamping on non-porous surfaces such as metal, plastic, coated paper, photos, or glossy paper. Standard ink can readily generate streaks, and the impression can be completely obliterated. Quick-drying ink reduces the possibility of these flaws.

Quick-dry ink is also ideal for those stamping a big volume of non-porous materials in order to stack or organise things in a timely manner. Photographic enterprises, industrial or production settings, classrooms, and artistic undertakings such as scrapbooking are examples of applications. With quick-dry ink, you can easily stamp artwork, identification numbers, logos, and more.

Invisible ink, often known as ultraviolet ink, may only be seen under a UV or black light. On hands and skin, there are numerous invisible ink alternatives. Hand ink dries rapidly, is non-toxic, and will remain on the skin for up to one day, displaying a crisp image or design.

Mark surfaces using invisible ink to leave no trace. This ink is suitable for official uses, such as marking property or a valuable item. Invisible ink is most commonly used to stamp participants' hands at events, bars, or amusement parks. This prevents attendees from getting an unattractive mark on their skin, while bouncers and event workers can ensure that all entrances are counted.

Fabric ink, which creates a long-lasting, fade-resistant impression on cotton, canvas, muslin, and other fabrics, can be used to personalise them. Fabric ink penetrates deeply into clothes fibres to keep a gorgeous, bold appearance while enduring washing and drying.

Fabric ink is meant for usage on a wide range of items, from garments to tote bags. Customize camp or group t-shirts with a personalised design or text. Textile ink can also be used to label goods in an industrial context or to market a small business, such as a coffee shop or art gallery. Fabric ink can be used to stamp on a variety of fabrics, including cotton, linen, muslin, and canvas.

If you want to make stamping impressions on non-porous surfaces like pictures, plastic, or cellophane, there are a few things you should know beforehand. Unlike paper, fabric, and other porous surfaces, non-porous surfaces do not absorb ink. Make sure the surface is fully clean before stamping on shiny material, glass, and other surfaces. Though the ink dries rapidly once you've produced your impression, it's advisable to give the ink enough time before touching it or allowing other materials to come into contact with it.

The best stamping inks are determined by your preferences and intended purpose. In some circumstances, new ink is all that is required to refresh pads or re-ink self-inking stamps, while in others, an entirely new pad and stamp are required. Whether you want to add a one-of-a-kind, personal touch to your print marketing materials or a quirky accent to your art endeavours, experimenting with different types of ink on different surfaces can lead to creative design. Most ink is available in a variety of colours, allowing you to produce vivid impressions or just remain consistent with your brand. You may produce elegant, personalised marks that will improve any project by using a variety of inks and the option to customise a rubber stamp.
